Friday Favorites - January

I'm starting a new series on the blog... my Monthly Favorites! It will be on the last Friday of the month and I will show you all of my favorite things from the previous month! I'm excited to get started!

1. J.Crew Garnet Flame Plaid Shirt: I first saw this shirt in one 
of SarahBelle's videos and I immediately fell in love with it! 
I've worn it soo much since it came in the mail. They may have 
a few still in stock in local stores, but they've been sold out online 
for a while now.


2 & 3. J.Crew Turtlenecks: Turtlenecks have been my go
 to this winter since its been so freakin cold! Spring really 
can not come fast enough this year. I love to layer these 
turtlenecks since they're so thin. They really keep your neck 
warm, especially if you don't want to wear a huge scarf. 
They're super cheap now too- I highly recommend!

4. Nars Smudge Proof Eye Shadow Base
HOLY GRAIL. This is by far hands down the best primer 
around (and the only one I've ever tried...) I have REALLY 
oily skin and I hated wearing eye shadow 'cause it would crease 
within the hour of me putting it on and it would just look 
bad. My co-worker introduced me to eye primer ('cause, lets 
face it, I have no clue what I'm doing when it comes to 
make up) and I have been OBSESSED ever since. 
The last time I wore this stuff, I went 8 hours without 
my eye shadow creasing- 8 HOURS! That's pretty awesome 
in my book!
If you have oily skin and a problem with creasing eye shadow 
I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this stuff! I got it for $20-25, 
which yeah, is kinda pricy, but a little bit goes a long way, and 
it's the most miraculous product I've ever used. Now after a 
review like that, how can you not go check it out?!


5. Julep Cleopatra: A matte black nail polish. 
It seriously looks amazing on! My only complaint
 is that it loses its matte finish after a few days. I usually keep
 my nail polish on for 5-7 days and it starts to get shiny 
by day 3 or 4. If you're someone who changes their nail 
polish like you change your underwear
 (which I would hope would be everyday...) then 
you wouldn't have this problem. The color is super 
rich and the coverage is great (with 2 coats), it looks 
like satin on your nails- AH-mazing.


6. Nordstrom Utility Vest: If you've been following 
this little blog of mine, you know that I am OBSESSED
 with this vest! Although I got mine for Christmas
 (Thanks Boyfriend!!)  I know it will transition very 
well to spring and even summer! Can't wait to ear this 
puppy all year round! They're sold out of this one online
 and I do not know if stores still carry it but there are a 
few similar options HERE & HERE.


7. Kettle Corn: Random food item. Every single 
night after dinner I have a heaping bowl of 
this stuff. Everyday I pretty much look forward
 to finishing dinner so I can have some.  
Nutritionally speaking, it's just sugar coated
 popcorn, I think theres something like 7 grams
 of sugar per cup serving (don't quote me)
 which really isn't that bad. 
I can't see getting sick of it anytime soon!


8. Pave Link Bracelet: I know I'm kinda late
 to the bandwagon on this one, but I'm so glad 
I purchased this bracelet! When I got it in the 
mail I couldn't believe how sparkly it was! Pictures 
really don't do it justice, ya gotta see the sparklie
s in person- which means ya gotta buy the bracelet ;)


9. Linley Bracelet: Gah! Another sparkler!
 I've seriously worn this baby non stop since 
Mindy Mae's Market sent it over! 
It goes with everything and it's just perfect. 
The quality is phenomenal and its just so pretty!


10 & 11. Nyx Butter Gloss (Eclair & Devils Food Cake): 
So I was never really a big make up girl, but I'm getting 
more into it! I've seen a bunch of amazing reviews 
on YouTube for Nyx Butter Gloss, so I ordered from 
Ulta when they were buy one get one half off (i think). 
I tried them for the first time the other day and 
I can see why everyone gave them such rave reviews! 
Super soft on your lips and they smell SO good! 
I ordered the darkest color (devils food cake) 
'cause, well, why not- YOLO! (don't worry I'll never 
do that again...) and the lighter shade (eclair) which 
reminds me of a nude-ish color, and I've been on 
the hunt for a good light gloss. I really love them. 
Definitely try them out if you get the chance!


12. Fleece Lined Leggins: What can I say that 
I haven't already said about the most comfortable
 leggings n the whole wide world. 
I got mine at jane.com and I jusr ordered 
2 more pairs from Groopdealz, so if thats 
any indication of how much I love them... 
I wear them all the time, but I'm kind of getting
 sick of washing them every-other-day just so I 
can wear them again (hence my reason for re-buying!)

13. Naturalizer 'Jersey' Boot: Worn these 
almost everyday, as I'm sure you've noticed 
#sorrynotsorry :) They fit my calves perfectly in 
skinny jeans and in leggings, and they're warmer 
than I was expecting! They're also super comfy, 
and I think you can get them in the Naturalizer 
outlets if your close to one for cheap!


14. Cover Girl 3 in 1 Stay Fabulous Foundation
Best drugstore foundation around. Has amazing
 coverage (you still need to use spot treatment 
on blemishes though) and does not get cakey. 
I've been using this for the past couple 
of weeks and I dont break out from it - which 
is awesome- and I love the way it looks on my skin! 
If your on the market for a new foundation 
I HIGHLY recommend this one, 
especially if you don't want to break the bank!


15. J.Crew Jeweled Sweatshirt: It's cold, folks, and 
what's better when it's cold than wearing a sweatshirt? 
Oh you can't wear sweatshirts to work? Problem solved! 
A jeweled sweatshirt is perfect for the office (I've only 
worn mine to work so far) ! I love the colors of the 
jewels in this one, AND it's still available online!

Big cozy sweater and warm leggings (or sweatpants) are all I have been wearing recently.. This second or third, or fourth (don't know what were up to anymore...) round of freezing temps has really got me wishing for warmer weather.

Tunic: Winter to Spring

To get a little more in the mood for spring (in the middle of yet another cold snap) I thought I should share an easy transition look- and by transition, I mean neckwear transition (waaaay too cold to change my legwear!) ... Easy enough, right?? 
Let's get to it!

I received this tunic from Jenilee's Chic Boutique. Jenilee is a sweet girl who runs her own boutique on Facebook- you should check her out!
I knew this little number would be perfect as a transition piece; from winter to spring and even spring to summer (as a beach coverup). The fabric belt can be worn wrapped as I wore it, or pulled and tied in a bow in the back- also a super cute girly way to style it (I probably should've done that... Hmmm.. Maybe next time!)

Here is my "Winter" look:

When you think of winter you may think of fur. Faux fur, of course... It's super warm for polar vortex days and seems to be all the rage this season.



The green color of the tunic is also nice for this time of year.. It can even be worn around the holidays! Emerald green is one of my favorite colors to wear.


Fleece leggings are also a must when keeping warm! I feel like mine have been on repeat this winter! I can't help it, I just want to stay warm!



And my "Spring" look:

When I put this outfit together I kept thinking of flowers. Emerald green and pastel lime green- can you get more spring-y than that!? 
The necklace is also from Jenilee's Chic Boutique. I was so surprised to see it in my package! I love it! It's more of an update on last season's bauble necklaces (which I still love).


This outfit would be more for early spring, when there is still a chill in the air- but it can also be worn with opaque tights and flats, or glittery heels for a more formal event.

I bought this blazer without even thinking that I would pair it with my striped shirt, but hey, when inspiration hits ya just g with it!
I have been loving stripes recently! The subtle thinner stripes, paired with the more bold thicker stripes works perfectly because one if more subdued than the other. 
Another awesome way to mix stripes would be to add a monochrome metallic stripe to a bold colored stripe.

I ordered this necklace online from J.Crew Factory during Cyber week, when it said it would be backordered until January 31, ok not that bad... Then I got another email last weekend saying it was backordered AGAIN until April. I was bummed, but hey what can you do?
The next day, I went to the outlets and I went into J.Crew... low and behold, this necklace was right there, along with a dozen or so others- obv. not backordered for retail stores. The sales associate was kind enough to give me a price match for the price I paid and I went home and canceled my backordered necklace...
So if you want this necklace and you don't want to wait 'til April, I suggest going to the store yourself..

Rustic


I've had my eye on an aztec sweater/cardigan for the longest time so when Jane.com contacted me to work with them I knew this would be my first choice! 


Jane.com is a website that features new and handmade boutique items daily. Their deals typically last 3 days or until the item is sold out- so you have to act fast!

I've ordered from jane.com before, they're personally my favorite deals website (this is my honest opinion). I think their accessory selection can not be beat! 


My fleece lined leggings are also from Jane (they're seriously the coziest leggings I own!). The shipping was quick, turn around of about 3 or 4 days (obviously this will vary depending on the seller). but I've never had any problems ordering before. 


Back to the sweater. This one comes from Simply Sage Market via Jane.com. What drew me to it was the color combination, it's got beige, mauve, and burgundy in it. It fits me about the same as it fits the model (for reference, I'm 5'3") It was longer than I expected it to be, but in reality that's how it looked on the model.. Not sure if that makes sense...


Only 2 sizes were available S/M or M/L. I got the S/M and I would say, it fits pretty true to size. I'm usually an XS or S so as expected this was a little big on me- nothing a belt can't handle ;)


When I got it I saw the colors and knew exactly how I wanted to style it! Tights and boots- a perfect way to dress up and still be super cozy! It would also look super cute with a burgundy or brown turtle neck for those frigid days (kinda like what were experiencing now!)


The accessories make this outfit going out appropriate, and add a little glamour to a comfy ensemble. I got the earrings from Kate Spade on a whim the other day and when I opened the sweater I knew I had to wear the two together! Perfect match if you ask me!

Newbies- J.Crew Factory Gigi Pant review


I ordered the J.crew Factory Gigi pant after a co-worker got them and raved about them. When I first received them and tried them on, they were not what I was expecting, they were stiff and long on me - I'm 5'3" and a petite or short version is not offered at Factory.  


I was not sure that I wanted to keep them, but I wound up keeping them just because I had heard such great stuff about them and the J.Crew Pixie pant (which are pretty much the exact same pant- just different zipper placement, and they offer petite and tall sizing) and I wanted to give them a chance. I got them on sale- they came out to $41-ish.

BOY AM I GLAD I KEPT THEM!! 


I'm wearing them for the first time today and so far they are SO comfy! They do not feel as stiff, maybe I got over that feeling and was expecting it this time around. For reference, I got a 00, they are slightly tight in the waist, but looser in the hip (since I have no hips). Overall I am quite pleased with the fit.

They're also SUPER warm! If you haven't noticed, we got dumped on with snow and my thermometer reads 11 degrees as I write this. I wouldn't recommend walking long distances with these pants, but they'll do for door to door walking and I'm sure they'll be perfect for the warmer (40-50 degree) weather! They rival my fleece lined leggings, except they can be worn as a more dressy pant. 
Overall, yes I would recommend them !!

I also got this scarf at Old Navy on Monday. I've been wanting a neutral printed scarf that can be worn all year, and when I saw this it definitely fit the bill- the fact that the whole store was 40% off may have pushed me to get it even more. Unfortunately I do not see it online but I'm assuming its a new arrival so it should still be in store! 
I have SO many outfit ideas for this little scarf! :)
